Born Mehmet Yaşar Günaçgün on 5 April 1970 in Adana, the Turkish pop artist
known professionally as Yaşar developed a taste for music while playing in his
high school orchestra and first performed live on stage in November 1985. After
moving to Istanbul for his studies, he cut his teeth on the city's live scene
with a band while simultaneously breaking into poetry. Post-graduation, in 1996
he set about recording his debut studio album Divane, which went gold, and the
following year he was awarded the Best Debut by a Male Artist at the Kral TV
