The alternative country singer Valerie June has described her eclectic blend of
folk, blues, rock, soul and country music as "organic moonshine roots music".
The artist began her career in Memphis playing alongside her husband Michael
Joyner in a duo called Bella Sun. After the break-up of her marriage she began a
solo career and concentrated on expanding her musical skillset by learning
guitar, banjo and steel guitar, all of which now feature in her recordings.
