Jazz vocalist Urzula Duziak was born on October 22, 1943, in Straconka, Poland
(then German-occupied Poland). Initially studying piano, but after listening to
Ella Fitzgerald in the late 1950s, she turned to singing. By the early 1960s,
she had become one of the most popular jazz vocalists in Poland. Her five-octave
range and use of wordless vocalizing caught the attention of the international
jazz scene as well. In 1967, she married acclaimed Polish violinist Michal
