Born in Clermont-Ferrand on May 18, 1979, Sylvain Hagopian is better known under
the artist name Silvàn Areg, after having chosen the pseudonyms Casus Belli and
Caz B in his early days. Of Armenian origin, he grew up in the Lyon region and
began his musical career with groups such as Da Bronx and Tapis Versatile, who
performed at the Francofolies festival in La Rochelle. After teaching physical
