Quest is more of a one-off gathering of seasoned musicians than an actual band. The ensemble of saxophonist Dave Liebman, pianist Richie Beirach, drummer Billy Hart and alternating bassists Ron McClure and George Mraz produced a debut album in 1981, before reuniting five years later for Quest II. More active in the late 1980s, the band released Natural Selection (1988) and Of One Mind (1990) in quick succession, before giving way to the subsequent careers of its members.
