Phillip Boa & The Voodooclub
Post-punk and alternative rock group Philip Boa and the Voodooclub was formed in
Germany in 1985. Led by singer and guitarist Philip Boa – born Ernst Ulrich
Figgen in Dortmund, Germany on January 18, 1963 – the group issued their debut
album, Philister, in 1985 and followed it the next year with Aristocracie. Both
albums reached Number 1 on Germany’s Independent Albums chart and drew attention
to their unique and edgy sound. Signing to Polydor Records, they issued the
album Copperfield (1988), which rose to Number 47 on the German Albums chart.
