Formed in 1972, New York City was an R&B and soul vocal group founded by former
doo wop singers Tim McQueen, John Brown (The Five Satins, The Cadillacs, The
Moonglows), Eddie Schell, and Claude Johnson (The Genies, Don & Juan).
Originally calling themselves Tri-Boro Exchange, they changed their name to New
York City and released their debut album, I’m Doin’ Fine Now, in 1973. Produced
by soft pop icon Wes Farrell and future Philly Soul legend Thom Bell, the album
featured the title track, which was a Top 40 hit in the US, Canada, and the UK.
