Born October 16, 1940, in Amritsar, Punjab, Narendra Chanchal was an Indian
singer who mastered and popularised the art of devotional music. As a child, he
learned from his mother who would often sing bhajans at neighbourhood events.
During his nearly four-decade career, Narendra Chanchal put his voice to
numerous well-known bhajans and Hindi film songs, beginning with 1973's "Beshak
Mandir Masjid Todo" for the Indian Hindi-language musical romance film Bobby –
for which he won the Filmfare Best Male Playback Award – and taking in
highlights like "Chalo Bulawa Aaya Hai", "Tune Mu...
