Born on December 26, 1989 in Amami Ōshima, Kagoshima – the largest island in the
Amami archipelago – Japanese island folk balladeer Minami Kizuki learned the
piano as a small child and began laying the foundations for her music career as
a teenager. After moving to the mainland for high school, the gossamer-voiced
singer and composer began immersing herself in the traditional folk music of the
Amami Islands, shima-atu, and in January 2009 released her first single, “Ai
