In the space of a few memorable appearances, Menahan Street Band has become the Booker T. & the MG's of today. Formed in 2007 by Thomas Brenneck, the band is named after Menahan Street, the New York street where guitarist Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings lives. In 2008, Menahan Street Band released Make the Road by Walking, whose title track was sampled by Jay-Z for "Roc Boys (And the Winner Is...)", much to the delight of the band's financial returns.
