American composer and conductor Marvin Hamlisch (1944-2012) is one of the most
successful musicians in history, with a dozen awards including three Oscars and
several Golden Globes, Emmy, Tony and Grammy Awards. Among the fifty or so film
soundtracks he has composed are such highlights as The Way We Were (1973), The
Spy Who Loved Me (1977), Sophie's Choice (1982) and A Chorus Line (1985). In
1991, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra performed his classic Anatomy of Peace,
while other orchestras paid tribute to him by interpreting his film successes.
