The Polish composer, who was born in 1933 and died in 2010, only began his
career as a musician and composer in the mid-50s. A contemporary of Pierre
Boulez and Anton Webern, Henryk Górecki quickly achieved international success.
Yet it was in Poland that the maestro settled, inspired by his homeland. In his
work, Henryk Górecki would sometimes approach serialism, sometimes minimalism.
The Third Symphony, Symphony of Plaintive Songs (1976) is his greatest success.
