Born in Chambéry on September 3, 1981, five years after his brother, violinist
Renaud Capuçon, Gautier Capuçon won first prizes in cello and piano at the
Conservatoire. After classes at the Paris Conservatoire (CNR) and a first prize
for cello (1997), he joined the European Union Youth Orchestra and the Gustav
Mahler Jugendorchester. In 2000, after winning first prize at the Académie
internationale de musque de Saint-Jean-de-Luz (1998), he was awarded first
