The US rap artist Freeway was born Leslie Pridgen in Philadelphia in 1978. He
built his artistic reputation amongst the Philadelphia hip-hop community by
taking part in well publicised freestyle battles alongside artists such as
Beanie Sigel. It was Sigel who introduced Pridgen to Roc-A-Fella records, the
label owned by hip-hop mogul Shawn Carter (better known as Jay-Z). Roc-A-Fella
signed Pridgen and he released his debut album 'Philadelphia Freeway' in 2003.
