A native of London (November 3, 1994), Ella Mai Howell, known as Ella Mai, grew
up in New York before returning to the English capital, where she continued her
musical studies at a specialized conservatory. In 2014, she was still a student
when she appeared before the X Factor jury as a member of the trio Arize. With
no convincing results, the group broke up and Ella Mai continued on her own,
recording an EP that was released online. Rap producer DJ Mustard then took an
