Inuk singer, songwriter, musician, and filmmaker Elisapie Isaac was born in 1977
in Salluit, Quebec, Canada. The daughter of an Inuk mother and a Newfoundlander
father, she grew up in the Unavik region before moving to Montreal, Canada in
1999 to study communications and journalism. She began her music career as a
member of duo Taima, which also featured musician Alain Auger. The group’s
self-titled debut album – which featured Elisapie Isaac singing in her native
Inukitut language – won a Juno Award for Aboriginal Recording of the Year in
