An English, French and German singer, Brian Molko made his name in the late
1990s as the charismatic leader of the band Placebo. With his androgynous
physique, his taste for make-up and his flair for stagecraft, he was able to put
his teenage woes into words and reawaken a long-forgotten glam rock fervor.
Endorsed by David Bowie himself from the very beginnings of his group in London,
the author of the superb Without You I'm Nothing (1998), with its former
sulphurous reputation, has now clearly mellowed. And so has Placebo's music.
Much less marginal, it returned to the spotlight...
