Billie Ray Martin
Equally inspired by soul and electronic music, Billie Ray Martin earned a string
of Top 10 dance-pop hits during the late 1980s and 1990s. She was born in
Hamburg, West Germany, on April 27, 1959, and launched her singing career after
moving to Berlin in the 1980s. Martin later relocated to London, where she
joined the techno-pop band Electribe 101 in 1987. The group's debut single,
"Talking With Myself," became an international hit, reaching Number 23 on the UK
Singles Chart, Number 8 on the US Dance Chart, and Number 26 in Ireland.
