A Congolese raised in Belgium, Baloji formed the group Starflam in 1996. After
several albums, he left Starflam in 2004 and took a break from music. Baloji
returned to the music scene after receiving a letter from his mother, whom he
had not seen since 1981. His response took the form of 2008's Hotel Impala, a
perfect synthesis of rap and African music, and the story of his life. Baloji
continues his return to his roots in 2011 with the recording of Kinshasa
Succursale in the company of the young Congolese scene.
