Composed of Antônio Carlos Marques Pinto and José Carlos “Jocáfi” Figueiredo, the duo Antonio Carlos & Jocáfi rose to prominence as a songwriting powerhouse during the late 60s and early 70s. Hailing from Bahia, the pair became acquainted in 1968 and soon made their debut on the fifth edition of the Festival de Música Popular Brasileira (1969) with Figuereido’s “Catendê,” sung by María Creuza.
